Local Non-Profit Shares Life Skills with Students

Students often ask

  • What do I need to know to be successful in a job?

  • Can a job help pay for college?

  • What is a credit score and how do I get one?

  • I talk with people but I’m not getting the response I expected.

  • I’m worried about changes I’ve seen in one of my friends; how can I help?

In a 6-week pilot at Hoover High School, students discussed all of these questions and more, as part of a LifeYou Tools for Success program. LifeYou is a life skills program for college or work preparation.  It combines workplace and personal best practices with self-reflection and hands-on experiences.  It’s the next step for graduates of San Diego VeloYouth.  Below are comments from participants.

“I never realized depression, suicide and stuff like that was really serious until the talk we had today.  It was really educational.” – Isaac

“I like being part of something like this. It’s amazing.” - Mailey

Students wrapped up 6-weeks of tools for work success and tools for personal success with a Career Day field trip to a local office of HD Supply, a subsidiary of The Home Depot. They had an opportunity to listen to customer calls, explore career options, and get interview tips.

LifeYou was created in partnership between local non-profit, Quality of Life Connections dba San Diego VeloYouth and Elusen, Inc., a boutique professional services company that provides customized workplace learning and development solutions.  To learn more, contact info@veloyouth.org or tanya@eluseninc.com
